About the project
Nostyra is an independent, open-source project. This page explains who makes it, how it is built and tested, and which projects it depends on.

Maintainer
Nostyra is created and maintained by vivusk, an independent developer. It is a personal open-source project.
The project
- Licence: GPL-3.0-or-later. Anyone can read, build and modify the code.
- Source code: github.com/vivusk/nostyra.
- First public release: version 0.1.0, Windows x64 portable zip.
- Tagline: Old Worlds. New Ways.
How Nostyra is built
Nostyra has two parts. The launcher is a desktop app written in Rust with Tauri 2 and a React interface. It scans ROM folders, keeps the library in SQLite and manages cores, artwork and settings. The runner is a separate Rust program that plays one game with one libretro core, drawing with wgpu and handling audio and input with SDL3.
Emulation itself is done by established open-source libretro cores, maintained by their own authors. Nostyra loads them through a hand-written libretro interface.
How it is tested
Each system has automated tests, using test ROMs rather than commercial games. A system is marked Stable only after manual testing on real games; in version 0.1.0 that is the Super Nintendo. All other systems are marked Experimental, and their known limits are listed on each system page.
Sources for this website
The content of this site is written by the maintainer and checked against the project's README and release notes. Every system and feature page shows the date it was last reviewed. If you find an error, please open an issue.
