Part 1: the website (nostyra.com)
What we collect
Nothing. The website has no analytics, no tracking scripts, no cookies, no forms and no advertising.
Hosting
The website is a static site hosted on Vercel. To deliver and protect the site, Vercel processes technical data such as your IP address and may keep it in short-lived request logs. Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights are not enabled, and we do not use these logs to track visitors. See the Vercel Privacy Policy.
Download button
To keep the download link current, your browser sends one request to the GitHub API
(api.github.com) to look up the latest release. The download itself comes from GitHub Releases. Both
are covered by the GitHub Privacy Statement.
Part 2: the Nostyra app
No telemetry
Nostyra does not collect usage statistics, crash reports or identifiers. It has no accounts of its own. Logs stay on your PC; a bug report is a zip you create and attach to a GitHub issue yourself.
Stored on your PC
In the portable release, everything is in the data folder next to Nostyra.exe: the library
database, saves, save states, settings, downloaded cores, cached artwork and logs. Logs contain file paths, which
may include your Windows user name, but never your RetroAchievements password or token. If you log in to
RetroAchievements, pending unlocks, achievement lists and badges are kept there too
(data\achievements\, data\cache\achievement-badges\).
Sent over the network
-
libretro buildbot (
buildbot.libretro.com): which emulator core (and its system files) to download. -
libretro-thumbnails (
thumbnails.libretro.comand the project's GitHub repositories): the game's name and system, to download its cover and screenshot. -
RetroAchievements (
retroachievements.org), only if you log in: your password once to get a login token, then your unlocks, rich presence and the game's hash (an MD5 of the game data, never the file). Requests include a user agent naming the Nostyra, core and rcheevos versions.
These services have their own privacy policies. Set the environment variable NOSTYRA_OFFLINE=1 to turn off all launcher downloads.
RetroAchievements credentials
Your password is never stored. Your username and login token are saved unencrypted in
data\achievements\credentials.json, and the offline cache in
data\achievements\offline-cache\ also contains the token. Anyone who can read your files can read the
token. It is not your password, and you can revoke it by changing your RetroAchievements password. Log out deletes
both.
Children
The website collects no data, and Nostyra itself has no telemetry or accounts. Only the optional third-party services above receive data, under their own policies.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes too.
