Version 0.1.0 · 25.9 MB zip · Windows 10 / 11, 64-bit

Hosted on GitHub Releases. First time? Read the install guide.

Requirements

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit (x64).
  • Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. It is included in Windows 11 and updated Windows 10. If it is missing, Nostyra shows a message with the download link (choose Evergreen Bootstrapper).
  • A GPU with DirectX 12 or Vulkan support.
  • For Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, PSP, GameCube and Wii: OpenGL 3.3. Update your graphics driver if a game reports that OpenGL 3.3 is missing.
  • An internet connection only to download emulator cores, cover art and achievement data.

macOS, Linux, iOS and Android builds are planned but not available yet.

Install

  1. Download Nostyra-0.1.0-windows-x64-portable.zip from the button above. It links to the official GitHub Releases page. Do not download Nostyra from mirrors or re-uploads.
  2. Optional: right-click the zip → Properties → tick Unblock → OK. This removes the "downloaded from the internet" mark, so the SmartScreen warning usually does not appear.
  3. Extract the zip to a folder you can write to, for example D:\Games\Nostyra. Avoid C:\Program Files, because Nostyra keeps its data next to the exe.
  4. Run Nostyra.exe.

"Windows protected your PC"

The Nostyra executable is not code-signed yet, so Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may block the first start and show "Unknown publisher". Click More info, then Run anyway. If you are unsure, verify the checksum first (next section).

Verify the download (optional)

Open PowerShell in the folder with the zip and run:

Get-FileHash .\Nostyra-0.1.0-windows-x64-portable.zip -Algorithm SHA256

The result for version 0.1.0 should be 7479eacc1d830d6299d380fbae31f989fd2300e633e775984eb18300443424f6.

GitHub also shows the SHA-256 next to each file on the release page. Compare with that value if in doubt.

First run

  1. Add one or more ROM folders. Organise them any way you like: Nostyra detects each game by its content.
  2. Nostyra matches games against the No-Intro and Redump databases and downloads cover art.
  3. Press Play. The first time you play a system, Nostyra offers to download its emulator core from the libretro buildbot. You can also install cores in Settings → Emulator cores.

Everything Nostyra writes (library, saves, settings, cores, artwork cache, logs) stays in the data folder next to Nostyra.exe. See portable mode.

Update

There is no in-app updater yet. Download the new zip, extract it, and copy the data folder from your old Nostyra folder into the new one. Keep a backup of data\saves before updating.

Uninstall

Delete the Nostyra folder. If you moved the data folder in Settings, delete that folder too.
