How to use
- Rewind is off by default. Turn it on in the pause menu Options, in Settings → Gameplay defaults, or with
rewind.enabled = truein a config file. - Hold Backspace on the keyboard or L2 on a gamepad. Audio is muted while rewinding.
rewind.buffer_mb(16–512, default 64) limits how much history is kept.
Known limits
- Off for Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, PSP, GameCube and Wii: their cores' save states are not frame-exact. The pause menu shows the reason.
- On systems where the triggers are game buttons (PlayStation, Dreamcast, GameCube, Wii), the gamepad trigger is given to the game and rewind stays on the keyboard.
Other features
Fast-forward
Fast-forward runs the game as fast as your PC allows while you hold the key. It is useful for long dialogue, grinding or slow intros.
Run-ahead
Many games react to a button press one or more frames late, even on original hardware. Run-ahead emulates ahead and rolls back each frame to hide 1–2 frames of that delay.
CRT and LCD shaders
Shaders change how the picture is drawn, for example to imitate the scanlines of a CRT TV or the pixel grid of a handheld screen.
