PS1 emulator for PC
Nostyra plays PlayStation games through PCSX ReARMed. Its built-in HLE BIOS runs most games; for the few that need a real BIOS, you can add one dumped from your own console.

Game files
- Redump
.cue+.bintracks (keep them together; the track files are hidden from the library), a single.binor.iso,.chd, and PS1 classicEBOOT.PBP. - A cue whose FILE line names a missing file is not listed; the scan notice shows which track is missing.
- Multi-disc games: write an
.m3uwith one disc per line. The pause menu gains Disc to swap, and save states remember the inserted disc.
Identification and BIOS
- The first data track is hashed against the Redump DAT.
.chdand.pbpmatch by boot serial. - Settings → BIOS → Add BIOS file copies your own BIOS into
data/system/under the name the core expects (for examplescph1001.bin). One BIOS of any region is used for every disc.
Memory cards and controls
- Card 1 is the game's
save.srm(raw 128 KiB, same format as ePSXe.mcrand DuckStation.mcd); card 2 ispcsx-card2.mcd. - Detail → Save states → Memory cards → Import card brings cards from other emulators (
.mcr,.mcd,.srm,.gme,.vgs). - Cross = B, Circle = A, Square = Y, Triangle = X; L2 / R2 sit on the triggers.
Known limits
- Not yet: analog sticks / DualShock mode, rumble, PPF patches,
.img/.ccd/.mdf/.ecm, core options. - Loading a save state also restores the memory card stored in it: save in game before loading an old state.
Before you start
Nostyra does not include, download or link to PlayStation games or BIOS files. Use games you own, dumped from your own cartridges or discs. See the disclaimer.
Features for PlayStation games
Save states
A save state stores the whole emulated machine at one moment, so you can continue from any point, not only where the game lets you save.
Rewind
Rewind keeps a short history of the game in memory. Holding the rewind key plays it backwards at 2× speed.
Run-ahead
Many games react to a button press one or more frames late, even on original hardware. Run-ahead emulates ahead and rolls back each frame to hide 1–2 frames of that delay.
CRT and LCD shaders
Shaders change how the picture is drawn, for example to imitate the scanlines of a CRT TV or the pixel grid of a handheld screen.
RetroAchievements
RetroAchievements is a community service that adds achievements to classic games. Nostyra supports it on 14 systems using rcheevos, the same library RetroArch uses.
Resume
When you quit a game, Nostyra saves a resume point. The next time you press Play, it asks whether to continue from there or start fresh.
