IPS, UPS and BPS soft patching
Translations, bug fixes and hacks are often shared as patch files. Nostyra applies them in memory when the game starts; the ROM file is never changed.
Available on: Cartridge systems: NES, SNES, Game Boy family, Nintendo 64 and Sega 8/16-bit.
Related systems: NES, Game Boy, SNES, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, SG-1000, Master System, Mega Drive / Genesis, Game Gear

How to use
- Place the patch next to the ROM with the same file name:
Game.sfc+Game.bps(or.ups,.ips). - Several patches chain in order:
.bps,.bps1,.bps2…, then.ups…, then.ips…. Each patch must be made for the output of the one before. - The window title shows
[IPS patch],[3 patches]or[patch failed]. If a patch fails, the game starts unpatched.
Known limits
- Saves are shared with the unpatched game.
- Nintendo 64: most patches are made for
.z64dumps, so patch a.z64. - Mega Drive: patches are made for raw dumps; patching an
.smdcopier dump breaks the game. - PPF patches for PlayStation discs are not supported yet.
Other features
Portable mode
The Windows release is a portable zip with no installer. Everything Nostyra writes stays in a
data folder beside Nostyra.exe.
RetroAchievements
RetroAchievements is a community service that adds achievements to classic games. Nostyra supports it on 14 systems using rcheevos, the same library RetroArch uses.
Save states
A save state stores the whole emulated machine at one moment, so you can continue from any point, not only where the game lets you save.
