RetroAchievements support

RetroAchievements is a community service that adds achievements to classic games. Nostyra supports it on 14 systems using rcheevos, the same library RetroArch uses.

Available on: All systems except GameCube and Wii.

How to use

  • Log in once in Settings → RetroAchievements. Your password is used once to get a login token and is never stored.
  • In game: a placard when the set loads, unlock pop-ups with the badge and a chime, progress indicators, and an Achievements list in the pause menu.
  • In the launcher, Detail → Achievements shows the list, points and unlock times.

Offline play

  • A game you have played online once (same account) keeps its achievements without a network. Unlocks are queued and sent later with their original time.
  • Soft-patched games that RetroAchievements does not recognise can fall back to the original ROM's set (softcore, can be turned off).

Known limits

  • Softcore only: hardcore mode is hidden until RetroAchievements approves Nostyra as an emulator. Leaderboards need hardcore, so there are none yet.
  • Not available for GameCube / Wii or PlayStation EBOOT.PBP games.
  • Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters show as boxes in the overlay. The login token is stored unencrypted.
  • Offline, a game never played online has no achievements. After an offline start the set loads about 10–20 seconds later; anything triggered before that is missed.
  • The patched-ROM fallback can misfire if the patch changes game memory. Turn it off in Settings if unsure.

Other features

Save states A save state stores the whole emulated machine at one moment, so you can continue from any point, not only where the game lets you save. Rewind Rewind keeps a short history of the game in memory. Holding the rewind key plays it backwards at 2× speed. Fast-forward Fast-forward runs the game as fast as your PC allows while you hold the key. It is useful for long dialogue, grinding or slow intros.
