How to use
- F1 saves to the current slot, F4 loads it, F2 / F3 pick the previous / next slot (0–9).
- The pause menu (Esc, the Guide / PS button, or Select + Start held for 0.5 s) shows a thumbnail grid of all slots.
- In the launcher, a game's Detail → Save states lists the slots with Load and Delete.
Where states are stored
- Each slot is
slotN.statewith a.jsonfile and aslotN.pngthumbnail of the game picture, in the game's save folder. - The save folder is found by the game's hash ID, so moving or renaming the ROM keeps its states.
Known limits
- States of 3D systems are large: about 16 MiB (Nintendo 64), 36 MiB (Dreamcast), 40–72 MiB (PSP) and 90–120 MiB (GameCube / Wii) each.
- GameCube / Wii states only load in the Dolphin version that made them.
- On the Nintendo DS, loading a state also rewrites the in-game save stored in that state.
Other features
Rewind
Rewind keeps a short history of the game in memory. Holding the rewind key plays it backwards at 2× speed.
Fast-forward
Fast-forward runs the game as fast as your PC allows while you hold the key. It is useful for long dialogue, grinding or slow intros.
Run-ahead
Many games react to a button press one or more frames late, even on original hardware. Run-ahead emulates ahead and rolls back each frame to hide 1–2 frames of that delay.
