PS4, PS5 and Xbox controller support

Nostyra reads gamepads through SDL3. Gamepads work out of the box, and the Controls editor shows Xbox or PlayStation button labels to match your pad. The DualSense (PS5) has been tested by the maintainer.

Available on: All 16 systems.

Related systems: Nintendo 64, GameCube, Nintendo DS, Wii, Mega Drive / Genesis, Dreamcast, PSP

How it works

  • Buttons follow the SNES layout by position.
  • Tested by the maintainer with a DualSense (PS5) controller. Xbox controllers and the DualShock 4 (PS4) use the same SDL3 gamepad support.
  • Bindings are stored by position (south, east, west, north), so one mapping works on every brand of pad.
  • After you press a button, the Controls editor shows Xbox labels (A, B, X, Y) or PlayStation labels (✕, ○, □, △) to match your pad.
  • The Guide / PS button opens the pause menu.

Analog sticks and triggers

  • Analog sticks drive the Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, PSP, DS (touch cursor), GameCube and Wii sticks.
  • GameCube and Dreamcast use the analog triggers with pressure.

Known limits

  • Not yet: rumble, motion, and DualShock analog mode for PlayStation games.
  • Gamepad capture in the launcher is unavailable while a game is running.
